Description:

You are invited to come to the Bray Hollow Nature Center to join A Time for Science on a Mid Winter Mars Watch Friday, January 29 starting at about 8:00 pm.  Weather and cloud cover permitting.  Mars will come into Opposition on January 29, 2010 in the constellation Cancer.  Two days before, on January 27, 2010, the planet will have come to its closest approach to Earth (99.33 million km – 0.66399 AU) during this orbital cycle.  This is not the closest ever but still makes for good viewing of the “Red Planet.”  At this opposition it will be springtime for the northern hemisphere on Mars.  So primarily observable will be Mars’ northern hemisphere.

Some highlights:

  • Telescopes will be available for viewing Mars and other interesting night sky objects.
  • A tour of the Winter Sky will be presented.
  • And you will all have a chance to see the new Nature and Science Center Building.

Registration is: CLOSED
