Okay, this is a little late to post but important none-the-less. A Time for Science was featured in the Pitt Soil & Water Fall 2009 Newsletter. As stated on our About Us page, A Time for Science works in close association with the Pitt County Environmental Education Center, under the direction of the Pitt County Soil and Water Conservation District and with the Bray Hollow Conservation Easement in its presentation of environmental, ecological and earth science programs and activities. You can check out the newsletter here (pdf file).

Location: A Time for Science (Directions)

Description:
You are invited to come to the Bray Hollow Nature Center to join A Time for Science on a Mid Winter Mars Watch Friday, January 29 starting at about 8:00 pm. Weather and cloud cover permitting. Mars will come into Opposition on January 29, 2010 in the constellation Cancer. Two days before, on January 27, 2010, the planet will have come to its closest approach to Earth (99.33 million km – 0.66399 AU) during this orbital cycle. This is not the closest ever but still makes for good viewing of the “Red Planet.” At this opposition it will be springtime for the northern hemisphere on Mars. So primarily observable will be Mars’ northern hemisphere.
Some highlights:
Telescopes will be available for viewing Mars and other interesting night sky objects.
Fort Lauderdale-based solar distributor Advanced Green Technologies is expanding its push into North Carolina to take advantage of the state’s tax incentives for solar energy.
VP Yann Brandt said AGT is opening a small office in Charlotte, even as the company nears financing for a 2.3-megawatt solar project in eastern North Carolina.
“We have completed the buildout, and will put a demonstration unit up on the roof,” Brandt said. “The project we’ve been working on should be the largest rooftop solar installation of its kind in the state.”
Sounds like some of us in the East will be enjoying some solar juice soon! Check out the rest of the article here.
