Enjoy an afternoon with your family in the woods and to learn to use a key to identify some common trees of Eastern North Carolina. Take a Child Outside (TACO) Week is September 24th-30th. TACO is a nation-wide program started in response to the publication of Richard Louv’s book Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature Deficit Disorder and is designed to help break down obstacles that keep children from discovering the natural world. By arming parents, teachers and other caregivers with resources on outdoor activities, our goal is to help children across the country develop a better understanding and appreciation of the environment in which they live, and a burgeoning enthusiasm for its exploration.
